SUNDAY MORNING CHILDREN’S PROGRAMME @ SMB
THE AGE SPLIT
Under 3s Group (What Happens Each Week?)
A fully staffed crèche provision is available during all our 9.15 am & 11am services. The crèche is situated in the ’upper room’. Access is through the door to the left of the chancel. Children leave this group on their third birthday.
3s to 5s Group (What Happens Each Week?)
This group enjoy a combination of age appropriate teaching and craft activities and worship. Children leave this group having completed Foundation Year in school.
5 to 11s Group (What Happens Each Week?)
This group enjoy a combination of prayer, praise and preaching - the building blocks of effective ministry to children - and age appropriate craft activities and worksheets. During certain weeks this group is further split into 5 to 7s and 8 to 11s for small group work. The children leave this group the September after their 11th birthday.
11+ Group
The September after their 11th birthday is when the children become part of St Mary’s amazing youth programme, including FROG!!
WHAT HAPPENS ON WHICH WEEK?
Week 1
On the first Sunday of each month the children are dropped off by the parents at the Church Hall. The children all meet together (ages 3 to 11) for the start of the programme. They then split into their groups for teaching. The praise element, and the teaching for the older group is taken by Mark Griffiths on this week.
Week 2, 4 (,5)
The children leave the service after approximately 20 minutes and are walked to their children’s programme. The age groups split from the start and the older group further divide for craft and worksheets towards the end of the programme.
Week 3
The third week of the month is set aside for ALL AGE WORSHIP. A time for adults and children to worship together and enjoy the teaching together. The all age worship service is not a children’s service. It is a service for multiple ages, by which we mean there are components in the service for everyone.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
For all weeks except week 1 (when the children are dropped off at the Church Hall by their parents) the children leave the main church at the appropriate time and gather outside. They will then be walked down to the Church Hall by our leaders.
At the end of the session the children will be walked back up to the church building. It is easier for the children’s team if children are not picked up on route, we suggest parents wait for their children in the main church. Children are walked to and from the church hall in an orderly and well organised manner.
